Michael Saunders & Company Represents Buyer in $2.1 Million Purchase of Historic “Rosin Arcade Building” in DeSoto County

Buyer plans careful historic restoration of 1926 Arcadia landmark

by Rich Mullins

Rosin Building exterior Michael Saunders & Company’s Commercial Division (MSC) is proud to announce the successful purchase of the 1926 Rosin Arcade building at 101 W Oak Street, Arcadia, FL, for $2.1 million. The spectacular 30,000 square-foot pink and white building with gothic spires and parapet is one of the most iconic buildings in Arcadia. It is a dramatic example of the “Cracker Eclectic” style emblematic of Florida’s “Roaring Twenties” economic boom. The buyer, Anne Lomski, is a lifelong Floridian with a passion for local history. She was represented by Chris Baylis of Michael Saunders & Co.’s Lakewood Ranch office and Terry Eastman in the firm’s Commercial Division in the purchase. “I had my eye on this building ever since I first started coming to Arcadia to go antique shopping, and I adore working with Chris and everyone at Michael Saunders & Co.,” said Ms. Lomski. “When I heard the building might be coming on the market, I knew what to do next.” Ms. Lomski said she intends to fully restore the building, bringing the façade and common spaces back to as close to original condition as possible. The building will remain fully open to current tenants during the restoration process. “We’re going to finish the job of bringing her back, and then next year we are going to have a party to celebrate her 100th birthday,” said Ms. Lomski. “We have great tenants, and we hope that the improvements we make will help attract more people to these businesses and Arcadia.” Fifty miles east of Sarasota, the Rosin Arcade is located in Arcadia’s Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been at the hub of life in Arcadia since it first opened in 1927 as the Boston Store and U.S. Post Office. Since then, it has been home to a drug store, soda fountain, many restaurants, antique shops and apartments. “It is such a pleasure to help our clients find unique properties like the Rosin Arcade,” said Chris Baylis of Michael Saunders & Co. “This is where our local knowledge and appreciation of Florida history and culture can really make a difference.”
